Bringing autonomous driving and vehicle solutions to Australia

TIER IV, a pioneer in open-source autonomous driving (AD) technology, has announced its strategic partnership with Australia’s National Transport Research Organisation with the mission of delivering integrated, innovative and impactful mobility solutions.

The launch of autonomous vehicles, from low-speed delivery and logistics vehicles to shuttles, buses and robo-taxis, across various transport sectors in Australia is targeted through the collaboration.

TIER IV has achieved notable successes in AD deployments within its home market of Japan, helping to improve road safety and transportation efficiency.

These efforts have proven highly beneficial in tackling the myriad challenges in the mobility sector.

NTRO believes Australia can benefit from TIER IV’s capabilities and track record of delivering AD solutions based on Autoware*, the world’s first and widely acclaimed open-source AD software.

“We are very excited to be collaborating with NTRO to support our common mission of making roads safer and transportation more efficient,” said Shinpei Kato, founder, CEO and CTO of TIER IV.

“I believe Australia holds great promise for the adoption of autonomous vehicles and this collaboration is a great opportunity for TIER IV to contribute to building an AD ecosystem through our vision of providing open access to the technology.”

“The foundation software developed by TIER IV adds great value to the Australian autonomous ecosystem,” said Michael Caltabiano, CEO of NTRO.

“At NTRO we are very pleased to see what opportunities this new partnership can bring to our region and how we can deliver next generation journeys for freight, passenger and emergency services by advancing the journey to autonomy.”
