Executive Director Ports & Airports
Jason is a Senior Executive with substantial environmental planning, sustainability, master planning, major projects and corporate planning experience across 30 years.
He joined NTRO in late 2022 and is the National Lead for the Ports & Airports group through Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.
His port industry experience spans 23 years - including 10 years at the Port of Brisbane as the Senior Manager of Strategy & Planning responsible for all strategic planning and regulatory planning assessments at the port (and three regional boat harbours) during the port expansion phase, introduction of the third stevedore and extensive industrial / semi-commercial development focussed on sustainable operational outcomes throughout the Brisbane and Moreton Bay urban areas.
Between 2011 and 2022 he managed his private consulting practice Sprott Planning & Environment Pty Ltd specialising in master planning, major project approvals, sustainability, supply chain protection, environmental management and corporate advisory work with both private sector and government clients across Australia and New Zealand.
During his career, he has been commissioned by both Commonwealth and State Governments in policy fields relating to sustainable coastal development and network planning and has represented Australia at global forums including at UN headquarters in Geneva focussing on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and their relevance to the transport sector.
He has authored National Port Industry Guidelines covering Port Master Planning, Supply Chain Protection, Port Sustainability and Dredging.
He is currently Project Director on the Strategic Transport Infrastructure Advisory Program - with the Kingdom of Tonga - leading transport infrastructure advisory across road, maritime and aviation infrastructure in partnership with the Ministry of Infrastructure.
He is on the Board of Reef Catchments and the National Asset Centre of Excellence in Queensland and is a former Board Member of PIANC Australia.
Jason is a 'Sir Winston Churchill Fellow' and has travelled and spoken at international port industry forums across Asia, Europe, the USA, Canada, the Middle East and New Zealand.
