Logging into the Library

Signing in allows you to:

set search preferences for your current and future sessions
save items for later referral
set alerts and RSS feeds for your queries

How to use the catalogue

How to search the catalogue

To switch from basic search to advanced search, click on advanced search to the right of the search bar. To switch back, click on simple search.

To return to the main search screen, click on New ATRI Search from the menu along the top.

NTRO Knowledge includes ARRB/NTRO publications plus contract reports

Rail Knowledge Bank includes all rail-related material.

ATRI includes ATRI, NTRO Knowledge, Rail, and journal articles from our subscriptions in the CDI

Entering your terms

Simple search

How to enter search terms:

For results about pavements	type pavements
For results about both pavements and footpaths	type pavements footpaths, or pavements AND footpaths
For the exact phrase pavement maintenance	type “pavement maintenance”
For results with either or both the words asphalt or bitumen	asphalt OR bitumen
For results with the word asphalt but not bitumen	type asphalt NOT bitumen
For the word stabilisation or stabilization	type stabili?ation
For the words pollute, pollutes, pollutant, pollutants, polluting, pollution	type pollut*
Parentheses can be used to combine keywords and control the order of your Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT)	(scooter OR e-bike) AND (crash OR injury)

Advanced Search

Click on ‘advanced search’ to the right of the search bar.

Search for: Select which database you want to search in, e.g. ATRI, Contracts, or All (which includes the Rail Knowledge Bank). ‍
Search filters: Use the dropdown arrows to refine your search before entering term/s in ‘enter a search term’. ‍
Select field: choose from title, subject, author etc. ‍
Operators: combine multiple search lines using Boolean operators AND, OR, NOT. ‍
Enter search term/s: see instructions under simple search above ‍
Material type: further refine your resource type. Choose from Books, Journals etc ‍
Start and End Date: limit your search by creation date ‍
Add a new line: to include extra search lines

Interpret your results and refine your search

Tweak your results:

Click to activate Expand my results – includes results from CDI
Use dropdown arrows at the side to limit by subject, resource type etc.
Further refine your search results by adding new search lines – click add a new line

Managing your results

Favourites gives you access to your saved search queries, saved records, and your search history. Access favourites by clicking on the dropdown arrow next to your name when signed in.
