NACOE is a targeted research and development initiative of the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads and the National Transport Research Organisation. The purpose of the partnership is to unlock innovation, maximise knowledge transfer, and deliver savings through smarter, more efficient engineering on a national scale.
NACOE is committed to partnering with industry, government, and academia to develop and implement innovative solutions that improve Queensland’s roads’ safety, efficiency, and resilience. The NACOE Program runs on a rolling four-year basis, with projects generally spanning one to three years. Planning of the upcoming year’s program begins in January of each year. The Program relies on the input and collaboration of TMR and NTRO, as well as collaboration with industry to develop ideas for projects across NACOE’s seven key disciplines. Any suggestions for projects can be submitted by email to info@nacoe.com.au.
The program provides benefits to the Australian road industry by delivering research to improve best practices and enables effective use of innovative materials to translate new knowledge into practice. The NACOE research program is comprised of key discipline areas in Pavements, Asset Management, Structures, Network Operations, Road Safety, Heavy Vehicle Management, and Sustainability.
