Wayne Johnson was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of ARTC in December 2023 following a period as Acting CEO from August 2023.
Since joining ARTC in 2015 and prior to his appointment as CEO and MD, Wayne helped drive the company’s Hunter Valley business, including responsibility for the commercial and operational performance of the network.
He has more than 15 years of leadership experience across Australia’s resources, freight and logistics industries spanning mine, port and rail operations, including previous senior roles with the Hunter Valley Coal Chain Coordinator, Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group, Rio Tinto and Port Waratah Coal Services.
With a Master of Business Administration from the University of Newcastle and a Postgraduate Certificate in Management from Charles Sturt University, Wayne is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has completed the McKinsey Executive Leadership Program. An unashamed champion of rail as a safe, efficient and environmentally responsible mode of transport, Wayne’s leadership helps guide ARTC’s safety, reliability and resilience focus in partnership with customers and the broader supply chain.
