Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport visits NTRO Melbourne facility and laboratory

Senator Carol Brown from the Federal Government meets the NTRO team at NTRO headquarters, Port Melbourne

Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Senator Hon Carol Brown visited NTRO's Melbourne office and state-of-the-art lab this week.

Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Senator Hon Carol Brown visited the National Transport Research Organisation’s (NTRO) Melbourne office and state-of-the-art laboratory this week. It was a pleasure to be able to show her and her team the home for innovation across the transport portfolio and the hub for the transport sector delivering new ideas and developing new opportunities.

Leading the tour was Dr Richard Yeo, Chief Operating Officer of NTRO, who showed Senator Brown around the purpose-built facility.  Our world-leading research laboratory featured strongly in the visit as the established one source of truth for the evaluation of next generation materials which are more sustainable, safer, and better value for money than current ones.

“It was a pleasure to show the Assistant Minister the great work that is being delivered by Australia’s peak research facility. Senator Brown’s intense interest in the future of road safety and the innovations like NetRisk 2.0, developed by NTRO, that links road works to better safety outcomes was inspirational. To know that the work we are doing is able to deliver a step change in the way our transport network is designed, built, maintained and operated was recognised by Senator Brown,” said Dr Yeo.

The best and brightest of NTRO’s next-generation leaders spoke with Senator Brown on their areas of speciality, covering electric vehicle implementation frameworks, biogenic/low carbon bitumens, road safety, and the use of marginal materials in rural and regional Australia.

NTRO looks forward to engaging with the Assistant Minister to explore opportunities to work with the Commonwealth to help shape safer, smarter, and decarbonised transport journeys, shaping the transport future for Australia.
