NTRO recently completed a Road Safety Audits (RSA) for two ports operations in Western Australia’s Pilbara Region.
The RSAs aimed to improve the safety and management of traffic across the site and off-site road networks, addressing elements such as access roads, intersections, signage, traffic movements and facilities including carparks and footpaths.

NTRO’s Malcolm Mak and Elliott Tang conducted the audits, making on-site observations and engaging with operations staff to understand the unique challenges of these high-traffic industrial locations.
“The combination of sealed and unsealed roads and the integration of pedestrian movements present complex challenges,” said Elliott. “Our role was to identify potential hazards, assess existing safety measures and recommend improvements to reduce crash risks.”

The RSA provided opportunities to improve road and intersection design, optimise signage, and implement other road safety measures.
“By addressing these challenges, organisations such as mine operators can further reassure the safety of their workforce and operational efficiency.” said Malcolm.
NTRO’s audit reports include actionable recommendations to address identified road safety risks, ensuring transport infrastructure meets both current demands and future needs.

This project builds on NTRO’s expertise in road design, road safety and traffic engineering on large scale and unique heavy industrial applications. It highlights the organisation’s ability to provide tailored solutions for specialised environments, reinforcing NTRO’s commitment to delivering safer, smarter infrastructure across Australia and globally.
