A recently published Austroads report on Road Transport Management (RTM) Framework and Principles, reviews local and international RTM practices to appraise the development of an RTM framework.
The report, as authored by Dr Aut Karndacharuk and Asif Hassan of ARRB, details the work undertaken to develop the framework including a literature review as well as consideration of emerging and disruptive transport technologies such as autonomous vehicles, as well as the demand for a better use of Intelligent Transport Systems.
The document will equip practitioners with a holistic understanding of interrelated knowledge components in ‘planning, designing, operating and maintaining’ (i.e. managing) a road network or system.
‘This is crucial to the road transport industry because practitioners are often specialised and not always aware of the bigger picture’ Dr Karndacharuk said.
‘They could miss the opportunity to truly contribute to the ultimate goal of enabling ‘a safe, efficient, reliable and sustainable transport system’ Dr Karndacharuk goes onto say.
