The Centre for Connected and Automated Transport (CCAT) has held its official industry launch at Parliament House, Canberra. The industry launch of the new entity to guide Australia and New Zealand’s connected and automated transport transition, was hosted by CCAT Executive Director Rahila David.
Several guests were in attendance, including speakers for the evening Ian Webb, Chair of CCAT, Rob Sharp, Secretary of Transport for NSW, Marion Terrill, Transport and Cities Program Director at Grattan Institute, Kevin Reid, Chief Advisor of Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, and Michael Caltabiano, CEO of ARRB.
“It was fantastic to have such a broad cross-section of the transport community show their support for CCAT at our industry launch. There was a real sense of shared responsibility and drive to prepare our transport networks for new technologies in a more holistic way,” said Ms David.
Focusing primarily on the application of automated and connected technology to transport, CCAT's mission is to bring together Government and industry to focus on how the infrastructure that is being planned, built and maintained can enable a connected and automated future.
With members already on board including the Government of Western Australia Department of Transport, the Queensland Government Department of Transport and Main Roads, and Transport for New South Wales, CCAT is looking forward to working with governments and industry players in Australia and New Zealand to build a cohesive voice for the connected and automated transport future.
“It's time to work together to plan our transport infrastructure for connected and automated technology. Having the commitment of our transport agencies and the expertise of our diverse transport, technology and logistics industry is fundamental to planning for transport systems which operate for the public good,” said Mr Webb.
