Using Behaviour Science to Inform Travel Management
NTRO is collaborating with iMOVE Australia and Transport for NSW (TfNSW) on research to improve transport operations during network disruptions and encourage sustainable travel behaviour.
The project examines how behavioural science can enhance the use of operational tools and transport management practices. It focuses on optimising TfNSW's ability to influence travel behaviour during normal operations, major events, planned and unplanned disruptions.
The research will analyse TfNSW's existing control centre operations, stakeholder frameworks and customer interactions through traveller information. The research recognises that travel decisions are influenced by multiple factors throughout a journey - from pre-trip planning to real-time changes during travel. By studying these patterns and barriers, the project aims to help travellers make informed (and better) choices at each stage of their journey.
"In recent years, I've been interested in research in mobility management and optimisation. There are many factors that come into play when someone makes their travel mode choice, and it is important to understand these factors if we want to encourage a shift towards a more sustainable behaviour," says NTRO expert Dr Ronny Kutadinata.
This collaboration between NTRO, Transport for NSW, and iMOVE Australia will provide insights on a local and network-wide level, helping to create a more efficient and adaptable transport network.
